The European Para Dance championships took place beginning the 9th of November in Lomianki, just 18KM on the northern side of Warsaw, the capital of Poland. The championships ran over three days from the 9th – 11th of November 2018, which has been attributed to the significant growth and popularity of Para Dance Sport.
They were top dancers from across Europe with a total of 95 athletes and 14 countries who took on the floor. Our Team GB couple Paula and Gary danced their heart out at The Para Dance Sport European Championships in the Latin Combi Class 2 coming 5th out of seven in the Latin, Combi Class 2. They also came 4th place in Freestyle Class Combi Class 2.
Here is what the two champions had to say
Gary – “We were very excited about premiering our new Freestyle – “LaLaLand” – the first full collaboration with our trainer, Accursio Romeo, and even more pleased with the result of placing 4th, just missing that bronze medal! We had our best results of the year which just shows what hard work, direction and training pay off.”
Paula – “Qualifying to compete at the European Championships in itself was amazing. To then go and take part having the chance to represent your country was an honour and to then get our best ever results as place so high was amazing. It makes all the hours in the training room worth it. Thank you to all our sponsors and funders who helped make this possible”
We would like to thank our supporter, Champneys Charitable Foundation who have partly sponsored the team. Para Dance Sport is a growing sport across the UK and a sport that is recognised by the International Paralympic Committee.
Para Dance Sport continues to grow at both a grass root and elite level internationally but due to the continual lack of funding it is increasingly getting difficult for us to expand and grow more athletes to compete at elite level. We are optimistic about the future and would like a future where Para Dance Sport Team GB has more supporters like Champneys who believe in enabling more athletes to compete for their country in the sport of Para Dance.
Congratulations to Team GB!
